Jim Crow was a term coined from a play performed by the renowned 1830s artist Thomas Dartmouth (Collier and Manchester 99). It was later used in reference to African Americans and led to the formulation of discriminatory laws and policies in many states in the South popularly dubbed the ‘Jim Crow Laws'. In this context the area of focus is on the status of an African American during the Jim Crow era the nature of the treatment of African Americans in seeking employment riding in a bus and visiting a local park. as second-rate citizens during the Jim Crow era. The whites received preferential treatment in buses public schools and public parks. It was considered an act of civil disobedience for an African American to sit in a bus while a white counterpart stood. Protests grew in intensity in the wake of 1950 with bus boycotts on the leading end. The aftermath was a series of court proceedings that ultimately changed the status quo.
