Document Preview:

Thyroid Cancer Rates Internationally and In America Related To Geography The incidence of thyroid cancer has increased markedly in many countries including the United States (U.S.) in the last few decades. Findings of well-designed studies have provided information about factors that influence the rates and development of thyroid cancer. An endocrine cancer the continuously increasing trend is found in all continents affecting different populations in various geographical regions. This growing public health issue is related to geographic patterns and trends around the world. It is well established that exposure to external ionizing radiation increases the risk for thyroid cancer excessively. The thyroid gland is exposed more than other tissues in addition to concentrating iodine in the body (Wiltshire Drake Uttley & Balasubramanian 2016) hence it is irradiated more. During childhood exposure to high levels of radiation increase the risk for the disease later in adulthood. In this age the changes vary among populations contributing to the varied rates. Different levels of commitment are shown by governments when focusing health care resources on thyroid cancer research and treatment. Further studies are warranted to investigate the thyroid cancer epidemic to prevent and control the continued increase in all geographical regions in the world. References Hershman J. (2017).
