Name Instructor Course Date Comparison of Baroque and Renaissance Style Statue of David Over the years a number of artists have been inspired by the story of David in the bible. However most artists have paid special attention to the David versus Goliath story. This story has been a source of attraction and inspiration for a number of artists from all over the globe. Donato di Niccolò di Betto Bardi commonly referred to as Donatello was a well renowned artist during the renaissance period in Italy. Another great sculptor who took key interest in the David versus Goliath story as documented in the bible was Gian Lorenzo Bernini. These two sculptors came up with pieces of art in regards to David. Both of them sculpted sculptures in different times. Donatello during the early renaissance sculpted the statue of David whereas Bernini sculpted the statue of David during the baroque period. the baroque and renaissance style of David statue is vividly brought about between the different sculptures made up by Donatello and Bernini. The sculptures differ in that Donatello’s sculpture depicts David who is young nude and stationary. Whereas Bernini’s sculpture David is seen to be in action he is partially clothed and he is more of a man with manly features such as strong muscles. This clearly demonstrates a clear cut comparison between the Baroque and renaissance style statue of David. Works Cited Lewis Richard and Susan I. Lewis. The Power of Art. Boston MA: Wadsworth 2009. Selecting a Term Paper Topic Your final paper should be based on a comparison of two specific works from two different time periods or two different cultures. Your paper topic should be on a specific theme or question that links the two objects. We will discuss during the semester suggestions on how to chose and formulate a research topic. Please type and hand in three different comparisons for your paper and a sentence or two describing the proposed pairs and thesis statements. Your suggestions are due by Thursday November 2. You can make an appointment to meet with me to discuss your choices in case you need help. Once your topic is approved, you can begin your research. Researching your topic is a very important part of writing a term paper as it helps to substantiate the points you make in your paper. Don’t be alarmed if during your research you find that you’ll need to alter your original point(s) or thesis – that’s all part of learning! You can use books and articles published in scholarly journals. A minimum of 3 published scholarly sources is required for the bibliography. No non-scholarly websites sources will be allowed!! (Yes, that means no wikipedia. If you have a question about what is scholarly ask me. JSTOR, Grove/Oxford Art online etc…are all acceptable) Compile all your sources on one page – this will be your bibliography.
