("Statement Of Purpose | National Organization For Women") The National Organization for Women rejected the assumptions that women inequality issues were as a result of the natural responsibilities placed on them and dismissed those problems as a societal dilemma in need of urgent solving. Some of the problems that were noted as a hindrance to women in making an impact in society were their homely and motherly duties. Here, the organization insisted that a woman should not be put in a position where she has to choose between her marriage and motherly duties against the chance to make an impact professionally by participating in the job industry. Traditional assumptions and expectations still prevailed at the time and affected women would be required to drop their professions or jobs for a significantly long time and commit themselves fully to rearing children.

To counter this, the National Organization for Women proposed realistic measures that would release the burden for a professional woman to quit her job to raise their child. Moreover, NOW wanted to tackle the obstacles that hindered women from experiencing the advantages of equal opportunities and the freedom of choice. This was considered not only a right with regard to women’s status as Americans but also as humans thus were entitled to opportunities of expressing and fulfilling their potential. In order to achieve the stipulated goals, NOW had to formulate strategies so as to ensure success in its quest for women equality. The organization had the intention of bringing to a halt discrimination of women happening in the important fields of the country including education, law, religion and government through initiating or supporting action.

So as to protect interests associated with the dignity of women, NOW intended to lay down protests that were geared towards demystifying the false image representing women in various entities such as the media, law and social institutions. On the other hand, parties or public officials such as senators, governors, congressmen and even the President who betrayed or disregarded principles of gender equality were deemed, enemies. For this reason, NOW vowed to ensure that such persons failed in their pursuit to attain public office. Like any other organization, the National Organization for Women was not immune to challenges as it undertook the mantle to take action against issues regarding women and equality. First, in the time period when NOW was being formed, there were traditional assumptions and beliefs that hindered progression of women.
