Brain Development and Behavior
Document Type:Coursework
Subject Area:Psychology
As such, if a brain region is damaged, then the necessary function cannot be achieved. In the article “A Neuroscientist Uncovers A Dark Secret,” James Fallon demonstrates this aspect. By looking at images of a brain, he can recognize a normal brain from that of a psychopath. For instance, since the orbital cortex is believed to be involved in ethical behavior, moral decision-making, and impulse control, Fallon maintains that individuals with low activity in this region are sociopaths. The orbital cortex regulates the activity of the amygdala which is responsible for appetites and aggression. However, relying on brain development as a predictor of behavior alone is not sufficient. The environment plays a significant role. The textbook maintains that for successful specialization to occur, there must be stimulation from the environment.
