How Canada changed in the 1960s

Canada is one of those countries that can be considered to have experienced all these changes. The 1960s Canadian changes can be for example dated back to the Quiet Revolution of Quebec whereby this Quiet Revolution appeared at the time of Canadian change in social and cultural activities1. This paper herein discusses the changes that happened in Canada during the 1990s. In Quebec, the Quiet revolution gave birth to unique features due to a wide range of changes to the systems of politics, economy, and education. Before the 1960s, the school system of Quebec was under the Catholic Church. In the 1960s, these reforms experienced some pushback but due to the change that had been experienced in the early times of the decade had lasted for long.

Some of the changes that occurred in Canada in the 1960s had some effects on the trust between religion, the tradition of the citizens and those who were non-religious as they were seen to be isolated and also separated. The change of attitudes towards sexuality in Canada in 1960s During the Quiet Revolution in Canada, a shift in culture was realized and was more widespread with women’s rights gaining much attention in Canada3. It was during the 1960s when the pill used to control birth was made available. Within that decade, Canadian women, millions of them and others in the United States were using this pill. In 1961, there was the formation of the New Democratic Party which was for the purpose of replacing the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF).

Establishment of the Royal Commission on the services of health and rehabilitation Act of agriculture together with the development Act also happened during this year6. It is also in this year when PM John Diefenbaker, outside of Canada, proved to fight for the rights of humans when he supported those countries which were not white commonwealth to gain their independence. He also used his speech of anti-apartheid to cause the country of South Africa to withdraw from commonwealth. This is because his speech was very instrumental. The Rebellious Era of Canada’s 1960s change In the 1960s, Canada experienced a very deep affection from the civil rights and the struggles of anti-war that occurred in the United States of America. This war was like being caught in the movement of anti-capitalist and was for anti-imperialist that almost swept away the whole world.

However, in the work that is new and commanding, Bryan Palmer in his work, described and demonstrated that Canada had its own 1960s which happened to leave a deep history. During the start of the decade, the imperialism of British’s ideology or the mentality of the settlers of colonies for the ruling class of Canada and its most powerful group of ethnicity was in place still during this time. The upheavals of the 1960s period occurred leading to its collapse8. This intellectual spin master was the marshal McLuhan of the country of Canada with “the medium is the Mussolini” as his notions. The unease over juvenile also established delinquency giving a chance to panic expressions because the hi-jinks pertaining the youths and the discontent came focusing on riots and more bursting out annually against the most imperial holidays together with the British holidays. At the beginning of the 1960s, increasing rebels among the youth assumed both forms of politics and culture. By the year 1967 to 1968, the rioting of the nihilistic faced a transformation into Be-ins, sit-ins and finally love-ins in the request for new identity forms of challenging the convention of the ancient British- the ethics of the work for Puritans. Events in Canada during the 1960s On February 15th, 1965, a new flag was raised in Canada on the Hill of the parliament.

Much competition and controversial to find the best design was experienced where Canada gave up on its old flag with the Red Ensign of British at the corner and started flying its red maple leaf distinctively. Lester Pearson who was the prime minister during that time thought of a new flag which did not have references to anything in British14. He saw it better for the unity of the Canadians. However, some people were regretting about it because of the loss of the symbol of that connection between them and British in their history. This was none other than Neil Armstrong who was an American astronaut. He made to step on the surface of Lunar and made the statement that “this is one of the small steps for a man, but one giant leap for the mankind.

” This was indeed a very famous statement. These events happened to mark the history of Canada back in the 1960s, and indeed they made the history of Canada to be remembered up to the date16. The new flag in Canada In 1963, Lester B. Before the 15 years, the provisional flag of British was replaced with the current Quebec’s flag in the nation of Quebec and the Quebecers embraced the flag quickly. This is a 1960s change in Canada that was witnessed by many during those times. Universal suffrage in Canada in the 1960s In the year 1960, the government of John Diefenbaker who was the prime minister during that time decided against permitting all the Indian status to cast their votes in the federal elections.

All the way from the 1950s, the Indian statuses were not being allowed to cast their votes because it was assumed that they had given up their rights to the treaty and their Indian statuses. This could be defined in the Act of India as enfranchisement, or it could be equated to participating in the First World War together with the Second World War19. This was also recorded as a 1960 change experienced in Canada21. The crisis of the month of October Pierre Elliot Trudeau was a French Canadian who came in the year 1968 to be on power. And also, Quebec produced a more radical group of nationalists called the Front De Liberation Du Quebec. Since the year 1963, their group was using terrorism attacks while attempting to make Quebec a nation of sovereignty.
