FRANCISCO GOYA Name Course/Class Class Francisco Goya Introduction As the father of modern art Francisco José de Goya Lucientes commonly known as Francisco De Goya has a unique position within the western art history. In his private paintings and prints Goya embodies romanticism by emphasizing on emotion subjectivity and imagination. As an astute observer his work directly responded to the world’s tumultuous events over the years. As a result Goya’s work had a great impact on the modern art. For instance Goya’s unflinching scenes from the Peninsular War presaged Pablo Picasso’s work in the 20th Century. Besides Goya also laid the foundation for Surrealists such as Salvador Dali through the exploration of dreamlike subjects and bizarre in the Caprichos. This illustrates how other artists drew inspiration from Goya’s grotesque imagery and other social commentary elements. As one of the greatest printmakers his biography becomes a critical topic of examination. in his life and artworks even after his death. Therefore through his biography it is evident that Goya is one of the greatest Spanish romantic painter and printmaker that played a critical role in the artwork industry.
