World Health Organization This study entitled “Prevention of hospital-acquired infections: A practical guide” was undertaken by various authors. The main purpose of this study was to provide information on how an individual whether a patient or part of the medical staff can prevent the occurrence of nosocomial infections. This is achieved by providing in-depth information on various nosocomial infections their causative agents how they are spread and how these infections can be kept under control. Data was collected at two levels; the hospital level and the national/regional level. Information was extracted from both infected and non-infected patients and also from hospital records. This study mainly emphasized on keeping the risk of infection at a 25th October 2016. This article’s main purpose is to give a brief overview on the current situation regarding healthcare-associated infections and present a few statistics on these infections. The article also serves as a source of motivation for everyone to come together and take part in eradicating these infections. The data presented was based on the CDC’s National and State Healthcare Associated Infections Progress Report that is compiled each year. Additional data was based on the HAI Prevalence Survey. The reports indicate a decline in bloodstream infections surgical-related infections and Clostridium difficile infections. They also indicate a stagnation in urinary tract infections. The most common types of infections were revealed to be pneumonia gastrointestinal illness and surgical-related infections. This article provides some relevant information that medical practitioners should take into consideration. It promotes public health by urging us to work together to save lives. [...]
