Leadership was not patriarchal as occasionally women would lead too. Inequality came about by the segregation on lines of class, a three-tier system was used. The elites would dwell in the City Centre in close proximity to temples, their homes were stone constructed. The middle-class lived further from the city centers and their houses were constructed with wattle and daub. The low class would dwell furthest from the city centers with their houses similar in structure to those of the middle class. Compare and contrast the pyramids of Egypt with those of Maya (Ch. 13) The Egyptian pyramids and the Mayan pyramids are similar in that both are made in the pyramid structure. Both the Mayan and Egyptian pyramids were used as burial sites for the elite in the society.
