Name of the Student: Professor's Name: Title: What is censorship and why is it important?Date: Censorship The concept of censorship refers to the practice of controlling scenes of a film or parts of a publication which are regarded as obscene or unacceptable (Bucci 48). In our case we will focus our study on censorship in films. The films used to analyze the meaning and significance of censorship are Psycho (1960) by Alfred Hitchcock (Abramson 83) and The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) by Martin Scorsese (Hunt 242). The idea of censorship can be dated back in the early 400 BC though there is no apparent genesis of the idea (Bucci 54). The Swedish government was the first to abolish censorship in 1766. Since then there have been several regulations in cinema industry that regulate how films are produced. The rules on censorship are varied from one country or state Macmillan US 2015. 83-93.Avalos Hector. "Film and the Apologetics of Biblical Violence." Journal of Religion & Film 13.1 (2016): 2.
