Social Norm Violation Project Group Members Institution Date PROJECT OVERVIEW Social norms refer to the behavior rules that a society or group consider acceptable. The society or specific group expects everyone to follow such norms or they are shunned. Violation of a social norm involves acting contrary to the expectations of the norms that are appreciated in the society. In the group project conducted at the Sam’s Club on el dorado Blvd. we sought to dress in fancy clothes and participate in a photo shoot at the middle of the store. Contrary to the expectation of many we observed and noted the reaction of the customers visiting the store. Being a grocery store it is not expected for a group to take park in such a fancy photo shoot at the store. The reactions of people from different communities were different. For example people from the Latin American community treating our actions as if we were doing something ordinary. Conclusion The social norm violation was an all-around success. Based on our choice of venue and activities we got some outstanding reactions. Each member of the group performed the assigned tasks appropriately making the project a success. Regarding the social norm violation we gained as much attention as possible from the violation we performed. The reactions of the observers were recorded for presentation and analysis of the project. Overall participating in the project was an excellent learning opportunity for the group members who applied the concepts learned in class to the real-life situation.
