Application of physics principles in structural engineering
Document Type:Coursework
Subject Area:Physics
In a construction site, structural engineers are believed to be creative innovators with the ability to design structures to withstand stresses and pressures imposed directly or indirectly through human activities and other environmental conditions. The stability of the building and other structures constructed must be guaranteed throughout the construction phase. Similarly, the stability is assessed after the construction phase to ascertain if they are structurally sound and fit for human use and other purposes. Thus, it means that the design of most structures is based on the choice of materials such as concrete, steel, masonry, and others. Having said this, it is now necessary to connect how structural engineering works in relation to classical mechanics and thermodynamic principles of physics. This strategy is also used during the construction of skyscrapers due to atmospheric conditions that tend to vary from time to time.
