Spectrophotometric analysis of cobalt co2 ions

Document Type:Essay

Subject Area:Chemistry

Document 1

Cobalt’s absorbance was established and assessed by calibrating the machine by a blank (distilled water), then the absorbance of 0. 15M cobalt ions determined at various wavelengths. The determination was carried out in the visible light region of the electromagnetic spectrum. From the plot, the concentration of cobalt ions was found to be 0. 092 at 505nm. In case of absorbance, the amount of light leaving the sample is less than that entering the sample. Absorbance is the reciprocal of transmittance. Concentration is the amount of a given substance in the mixture. Concentration can be determined by the amount of light absorbed at a given wavelength. The amount of light absorbed / absorbance at the optimum wavelength givens the concentration of the substance of interest in the mixture or sample.
