Political Parties and Interest Groups

Document 1

Interest groups take the existing governments that are worth attempting to influence for granted (textbook). In fact, governments are the reason behind the existence of some interest groups, as they are linked to government programs. For instance, farm lobbies exist because there are farm programs, veteran lobbies since the government engages in war, and education lobbies due to education programs. When a government is funding an initiative, the benefiting groups form constituencies, whose interest in the ongoing programs is strong. As the government has grown bigger and as a result, sponsored lots of programs, there has been proliferation of the interest groups. Personally, I do not believe that the crossover between bureaucrats and the interest groups is right. Truthfully, it is unhealthy for any democratic nation.
