Difficulties faced by International Students in Perth

In this study international students are recognized as those who reside temporarily in a country that is not their motherland in order to engage in educational international exchanges as students. The study is aimed at identifying the difficulties that international students go through in Perth. While previous studies have focused on problems they face in Australia, this study will extend its scope to evaluating why the international students have opted to shift to other cities like Melbourne and Sydney. In essence, the number of international students has been observed to rise. However, the limited resources provided for the students and the difficulties that the students go through have been overlooked(Altbach, 2015). On scrutiny of the pacts the English language proficiency sits at the top of the international students difficulties in learning in this environment.

Still, they remain unsolved problems that are faced by the students leaning in Perth. With the scope derationed towards the adjustment of international students to their new academic cultures in Perth a viewpoint has been identified that the students have particularly problems with the adjusting to the host country’s techniques of studying(Sawir et. al, 2008). International student’s ability to adapt to Perth’sacademic programs had a tendency not to depend solely of the English language proficiency but also the comprehension of the culture here their studies are being carried out (gu et. The secondary objects of carrying out the research project are inclusive of the following- a- To add into the research studies that exists about the problem. b- To provide a reference point if international students actually go through the mentioned problems.

Questions that arise from the carrying of the above project revolve around the following – 1-do the problems experienced by international students in Perth affect their learning? 2- How do the described problems in the study manifest themselves in the educational process? 3-are the described problems avoidable or are they subconscious Methodology Choosing a method that the research will be carried out deepens entirely on the primary objectives of the study and the questions that arise and must seek to provide satisfactory answers. With the scope of the study aimed at the obtaining of descriptive information, both quantitive and qualitative information must be scrutinized.

Recent studies done on behavioral psychology come in handy to the accomplishment of the objectives set at the beginning of the project. Having handled previous small projects I have a scope of what is required and am confident that I will be able to take the study to its last phase where it will satisfy the set goals.

In addition to that, the supervision from my sponsors and faculty will prove fruitfully to its completion. Apparently, whenever a student seeks to extend their knowledge and join these tertiary institutions, they are expected to adopt and adjust to their new academic and social environs. Numerous shortcomings have been highlighted that affect these students including language barriers, racial discrimination and alienation. Of all the above challenges, language barriers have been rendered the most challenging of the difficulties(Marquis and colleagues, 2018). lacking skills in English may lead to a student getting academic challenges which in turn may affect them psychologically. For this reason theinternational students have reclined to remaining with their fellow nationals to avoid confrontation on their accent. The student’s lack of fluency in speaking has made establishing social networks a difficult thing which makes them result to social exclusion. According to Bryson (2016), there has been a long history of immigration to English speaking nations sparking issues that revolve around decimation. the individuals with foreign accented English are taken to be less educated than the native speakers and incompetent. With respect to such stereotypes, it is not surprising to see individuals with foreign accent taken to be ‘unintelligible’ According to Altbach, P. With just a few resources and lack of good social relations, it is very cumbersome for the international students to pick up the right accommodation (Bryson, 2016). Students, when coming to the location are given little knowledge on how to find the right accommodation which most results in negative experiences. This results with them preferring other cities to Perth. They are forced into poor houses in the city due to the scarcity of housing. In event of finding a suitable house, they are usually in prime locations that areaway from the universities and lead to extra transport costs.
