Clinical data indicate that the highest percentage of infection occurs within the country; however, Canadians travelling into other countries also get infected. When travellers come back home, the risk of infections increases since some of the diseases can get transmitted through body fluids. (Public Health Agency of Canada). The health sector in the country has made significant efforts towards eradicating these infectious diseases, but re-emergent ones have proved challenging to manage effectively. List of emergent and re-emergent infectious diseases Zika virus – the virus is transmitted through sexual contact between partners when one is infected. Travellers who went outside the country came back with the infection hence becoming a problem for the public health sector. West Nile virus – the virus is present in birds, but mosquitoes who feed on these infected birds then transmit the virus into the human blood.

The diseases have affected many people in the country; reports indicate that by December 2018,367 clinical cases had been reported. Recommendation For the infection not to impact on the public health sector heavily, measures must be put in place to strengthen the prevention of new infections and to administer proper treatment for those already infected. There are several measures that the public health sector can take to prevent and manage these infectious diseases in the country. The government is also forced to acquire new equipment to deal with new outbreaks. Notably, a huge portion of the monetary budget gets spent on infectious disease control (Kwong et al. Furthermore, the virus and bacteria that cause these diseases have become resistant to the antibiotics used in treatment.
