Cultural Perspective essay

The various cultural perspectives are related in one way or another. Ethnicity, for instance, can be seen as a common national or cultural tradition of a group of people. The writings I will discuss in this essay are the novel A Mercy by Toni Morrison, Wilson, and Hall, and compare the different forms of ethnicity, and cultures involved in these writings. A Mercy by Toni Morison is based in the late seventeenth century about the journey of a sixteen-year-old girl named Florens who lives as a slave in the home of the Vaark family. This novel looks into African American experiences of slavery and freedom. In his Cultural Identity and Diaspora work, Stuart’s opinion is that the significant cultural perspectives are essential for people who are looking for the change.

Stuart defines cultural identity as the factors that associate a person with a particular group due to their similarities which he is the essentialist identity. The argument made was that this definition inspired feminism, anti-racism art and activism and anti-colonialism but cannot in the understanding the colonialism effects. He also defined the cultural identity as significant differences and similarities in a particular cultural group of people. In this group, the historical and social identity of the people helps in the understanding of colonialism. He argues that regardless of the pain caused by the colonialism era, the past should be let go. He advises that instead of living with bitterness, a person should embrace the past as a historical and moments of re-imagination.

The classical writer is consumed with the world of new possibilities and a new way of moving forward whereas the radical writer yearns for the past. Derek sees the need to take the fragments of cultural disappointments and merge them to re-imagine and create a new future where the cultural perspectives do not create conflicts among people. Derek’s view is honest and a good one. My cultural identity affected to some extent the response towards the material course. The fact that a person’s culture and identity can make the person to be discriminated in the society is upsetting and unfair. The belief and traditions associated with every person’s social class are unique and must be respected as it is a cultural value to recognize humanity.
