The rental rates in different parts of the country have continued to rise over the years. Most tenants question whether such high prices are even legal in the first place. In spite of this, real estate developers continue to charge high rent which has elicited discussions among the policymakers whether rent controlled policies should be put in place. However, with affordable housing as an essential aspect in economic growth, rent control is a noble act which any government can adopt. Controversies The controversies surrounding rent-controlled housing emanates from two groups of people who either support a free market in the real estate sector and those who prefer regulation in such an industry.
