The firm was founded in 1984 primarily to produce household appliances but has transformed from a traditional manufacturer to an open entrepreneurship platform. The Haier Group further operates through three business divisions; The Washing Machine Business Segment engages in the manufacture and sales of washing machines. The Water Heater Business Division produces and sells water heaters while the Integrated Channel Services Division caters for logistics after-sales services and linking its affiliate partners through sales and distribution. The city of Qingdao located in Shandong territory in China houses the headquarters of the company. Initially established as a refrigerator manufacturing plant the company gradually widened its operations to other sectors to catch up with intense competition.
