He hates the fact that Amir is nothing like him. Amir, on the other hand, is always seeking for the love of his father and his approval; he says, “Baba and I lived in the same house but our spheres of existence were different, and kites were the only intersection between those spheres (Hosseini, 52). ” This quote shows the distant relationship that Amir and Baba have, and that the kite is the only way that can make Baba approve Amir. As the story develops, Baba and Amir’s relationship changes when they relocate to America. Baba realizes that he is not the same wealthy and powerful man, and he begins to respect and accommodate Amir’s wishes and opinions. One lesson that stood out for me in this narrative is how despite the hard times, the relationship between Amir and his father endured.
