Visual analysis of a political cartoon
A first carton is a man in a black suit who seems to be bothered in the way the criminal cartoon is taking longer to respond to the lethal injection. And the third carton responds to the first cartoon concerns by an expressing his doubt as to whether the criminal cartoon is innocent or not. In fact, the nurse cartoon says if the cartoon takes much longer time he may be provoked to do a DNA test to see if the criminal is innocent. A keen study of the above diagram show three cartoons. The first cartoon represents a government official probably a police officer who is in black suit witnessing a lethal injection death. To help reduce the cases in which innocent people have been charged with death penalty yet they are innocent.
In the year 2014 some execution which went wrong. In April of the year 2014, an inmate was reported to have taken forty-three minutes struggling to die that is after he was injected with lethal drugs, but he died of a heart attack later (Orihuela-Gruber, 19). This action provoked the Oklahoma governor to suspend all lethal injection. The 8th amendment of the constitution denies any form of a cruel or unusual termination of a person’s life. The cartoonist is sending a message that lethal injection is not the best way and also people are being executed innocently. The cartoon uses caricature to represents an old government official who is old and disappointed by the effectiveness of the lethal drug. Sarcasm is used to question the effectiveness of the drug.
