The Functionalist Perspective

(Andresen, 2012) The functionalist theory is central in sociology. It is a theory concerned with the larger societies systems that develop a community. Most functionalist support the idea that for something to exists has to play a role in the functioning of social structure. The theory further aims to explain how a community adapts to changes. Furthermore, if this theory is to be subscribed to even today, then there would have been no need for rehabilitation of criminals as they are already an important part of the community. Secondly, functionalists sate that all change begins with deviance acts or actions that are contrary to the societal norms.
