The federal government has accessed the current situation in which they evaluate visions for universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water which an aim for fulfilling the sustainable development goals (MDGs). However, over the recent years, a population of over 2. 6 billion people has gained access to high-quality drinking water with the sources being designed to protect the human-consuming water from contamination (Relay Health 2013). Since water is a basic need for survival, tap water in the United State should be more accessible and available, with the federal government regulating the quality of accessible water and the water advertisement modes in United State as elaborated herein. Every living organism needs water for survival as water acts as a medium in which organic compounds that mix chemicals in the body.

It is the mandate of the US government to provide clean drinkable water in every household as clean water is essential for human survival and plays a major role in leading a healthy life. Every human being requires clean drinking water for better functioning of the body. Most households in the U. S. are lead to believe they have drinkable tap water, and yet, every day we see news outlets reporting contamination. In many sections of the country, old regions have water pipes made of lead materials. These lead pipes expose water consumers to the risk of heavy metal contamination which may lead to the development of cancer and other diseases among the water users. The government will, however, spend over $30 billion to replace the connected lead pipe for piped water with lead-free pipes and over $1 billion to upgrade water mains in United State (Duvauchelle 2017).

Although it is expensive to replace the lead pipes for water connection, it is essential for the government to conduct this task. According to Peter Glieck, the cost of dealing with the impacts associated with consumption of contaminated water especially from heavy metals is always higher that conducting pipe replacement. The federal government has made an effort of providing clean water to its citizens so as to reduce the diseases associated with water contamination. Over 75 percent of the American population is not in a position to access tap water for drinking. This is mainly among the population of low economic standards who are not able to pipe in water to their homesteads. It is also not easy to purchase enough bottled water for consuming.
