Document 1

On the other side, the story of an hour is based on reality where Chopin narrates a story of a typical 19th-century wife who learns about the sudden death of her husband (Chopin 3). This makes the two stories different because one is based on the racial background while the other is not. Another difference is that Chopin's story is based on the 19th century, a time when women were expected to be housewives where their duties were to rear children and do house chores as well as being submissive to their husband. This is evident because Louise stays at home all through the story. Hurston’s story, on the other hand, is based on a situation where the women work and provide everything for the family (Hurston, 10).
