Elderly in american culture

I am in total agreement with the main idea that the elderly are being portrayed differently in society. For example, we see that medical students refer to them as "vegetables or gork” (short for god only really knows) In mainstream America, being old has been stereotyped in a bad way by the media in various ways. We can see that the media has bombarded citizens with advertisements of creams, body oils, pills cosmetics hair color diet supplements and many more so that people can ward off being old so as to still look younger. These advertisements serve the purpose of giving people the idea that being old is bad. Another way that the elderly have been stereotyped in a bad way is by the general population and many taxpayers.
