What he believes that makes him bitter and cynical is because of his adulterous nature. Since he is extremely manipulative and moral, he still possesses conflicting impulses. Considering his personality, it is clear that he has a low opinion about women. The reason for that is because is always regards them as being individuals form the lower race (Chekhov, 2016). As the story keeps on unfolding, it is clear that the reason as to why he believes that women were lower is because he perceives that it is easier for him to not only manipulate them but uses as well as get rid of them the way he liked. Thus, he keeps on sticking to these claims in this story through going to Anna the same way he does to other women.
