EFFECTIVENESS OF TH GACACA TRIBUNAL Name Course Tutor University City/State Date Introduction Rwanda’s 1994 genocide was such a trying moment in the nation’s history. The catastrophe that had occurred due to various reasons such as ethnic divisions led to the loss of a huge number of lives. Consequently it led to an imprisonment of over 800 000 genocide-related perpetrators (Haberstock 2014 p. 4). Rwandan prisons were extremely overcrowded for this reason. The customary tribunals strived to expose the truth as well as encourage Clearly Gacaca prioritized the importance of accountability and responsibility to stop the impunity in the country. Additionally conferring to the fact that the system had several limitations such as lack of legal expertise as well as sufficient victim compensation undermines its effectiveness to resolve the aftermath of the Rwandan Genocide.
