Disorders of sex and gender and Schizophrenia
Document Type:Case Study
Subject Area:Psychology
In most cases, schizophrenia develops in a slow manner rendering it impossible for an individual to determine if they have suffered from it for a long time. However, it may strike suddenly and develop rapidly in some cases. A sizeable proportion of people suffering from schizophrenia are forced to depend on other people because they cannot care for themselves or hold a job (Videoberries). Others may also tend to resist treatment by claiming that their mental health is perfectly fine. The causes of schizophrenia are still unknown but psychological, genetic and social factors are known to contribute to the development of the disorder. Thus, most of them will wait for a long time to come and eventually face, rejection, isolation or violence (MCDERMOTT).
