Morality guides people’s behaviors and is mostly a part of the society social fabric. The sociological concept of morality says that people become moral since their actions affect society. For instance, a person who causes harm to people. The person is said to be immoral since the action causes others to suffer. Morality is achieved through the practice of self-values such as integrity, honesty, kindness, and respect. Emile Durkheim’s research on society and morality was searched and information from Emile’s theories was used to evaluate the reasons why morality is declining in our society. Sources that talk about the relationship between morality and religion were searched and used to evaluate how religion influences the moral values of a society.

As stated above, lack of social morality in modern day society has led to the decay of values and social norms in the sense that people no longer care whether their actions are good in the moral sense or how they affect other people. A moral society would have low numbers of injustices and levels of crimes such as theft and murder. This is not the case for the current society. Modern society lacks morality, and this has also led to people not living together or supporting each.

The society is being torn apart due to the absence of adherence to social norms. Society has various aspects which are dependent on each other and the change in one aspect means a great impact on the whole society. People in modern society no longer care about morality thus they do not sense when the equilibrium has been upset. Our contemporary society enjoys many innovations such as the internet, television and much more due to technology. However, these changes have come to separate people and accelerate moral decays instead of making lives better through educating the masses. This has compromised morality in the modern society in ways unimagined of by native societies. The evolution from the traditional to the modern day society has led to a breakdown of the norms within the community and therefore leading to a lack of moral decadence and integrity.

This is all due to the lack of a common unifying factor which was enshrined in the traditional societal values and conduct. However, as the society change from mechanical to organic society there is increase in communication, interaction with others and transportation. During this change there is establishment of some norms and values, showing there is still people who are socially moral in the modern society. Anomie In addition to that, anomie was the term that Durkheim used to signify the lack of social regulation. Gender (male): Durkheim wrote on the independence and freedom that men have been given in most societies all over the world. In cases where men feel the vital relationships they have are less than that of women they tend to end up feeling dejected and lonely.

Under normal circumstances, these people are supposed to see professionals so that they can be helped or at least talk to family members and friends. Unfortunately, this is not easy for them as they feel that the society will judge them as weak. This may on numerous occasions lead them to commit suicide. Among the ills cited are skyrocketing rates of crime, divorce, teenage births and drug abuse; war (especially in the 20th century); and a general decline in personal morality and religiosity. There is also concern that modern science and technology is leading to a widening of the gap in living conditions and educational opportunities between prosperous first-world nations and impoverished third-world nations -- indeed, this is a concern raised by both secular writers on the left and fundamentalist writers on the right.

Religious fundamentalists frequently pin the blame on modern science in general, and on evolution in particular. For instance, at the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky (a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio), there is one display, warning of the consequences of a scientific worldview. It features photos of a nuclear explosion, a collection of skulls from the Holocaust, and what may be a photo of a woman undergoing an abortion. In the present set up, there are challenges in preserving morality as people in society have let morality decay and are not even concerned. In the traditional society, women were respected, and they would dress in proper clothing which will allow them to gain respect from the society. Short dresses that are exposing the woman’s body was a no-go zone during that time Now we see much more push for freedom of dress.

However, the modern society has decay in morals as women have changed in their dressing to adopt a dress code that expresses sexuality. Unfortunately, this can accord them little or no respect from the opposite gender who tend not to respect their choice of dress but rather view them as sex objects in the society (Joseph, 2015). Morals are what makes an individual feel good (McKay & Whitehouse, 2015). For example, when older adults are taken care of in the society, then these indicates that there is morality that is being explained in the society and it will lead to happiness. Furthermore, when the sick are treated properly and when they are faced with challenges they are taken care of, these are part of morality aspects.

Generations will grow by understanding that it is moral to take care of the sick and also practice activities that improve on morality in society that will make individuals feel good and happy. As generations grow, they will have an understanding on what is right to conduct in society and what is wrong. The society will have proper morality when these processes are followed. Young generations that are growing will have an understanding on what should be done in the community to bring about happiness to the members and also what should be avoided while in the community. Morality should be highly practiced in the organization, among individuals, and in societies adequately. The search terms that were used in looking for information were; Durkheim’s theory of Social Integration, social morality, morality, social integration and Emile Durkheim’s biography References Durkheim, Emile.
