However, it is debatable whether peaceful persons should procure guns as a secondary self-protection method. The possession of weapons for self-defense by peaceful persons as demonstrated by Hasselstrom is one of the most effective ways of sustaining a peaceful society because such people would only use the weapons a measure of last resort and they are highly unlikely to be the aggressors. It is justified for peace-loving persons to carry guns for their own safety. Felons are likely to target individuals who appear less aggressive since they expect a little or no fighting back (Hemenway and Solnick 22). Although peacefulness may not be equated with timidity, calm people are susceptible to have their personal space violated since they might appear defenseless. In her article, Hasselstrom confesses that she was against the idea of citizens owning guns and her sense of safety made her doubtful that she could shoot another person (Kirszner and Mandell 357).

This is an indication that when guns are in the hands of peaceful persons, they are unlikely to be used to cause chaos or spur their ego at the expense of other defenseless persons. Moreover, even in the middle of a situation that justifies the use of guns; nonviolent persons will have the tendency to react rather than instigating a shootout. When guns are used for self-defense, those who possess them are allowed to use them in cases which upon their sound judgment are life-threatening. When in such situations, aggressive persons are likely to shoot first since they hold no peaceful reservations. Although peaceful people do not feel entirely secure by following such basic personal security protocols, it was unlikely that they could fail to observe them even after possessing a firearm.

Also, peaceful people should be perceived as the most effective pillars of a non-violent society. Allowing them to own gun would elevate their role in deterring crime and protecting themselves from being easy targets for felons. Their approach sharply contrasts that of intimidating persons since they would rather have their guns fastened in their holders for years rather than brandies them whenever they feel threatened. The belief that there exist numerous ways of avoiding physical confrontations contributes to sustained peace. Sometimes they have to, but only when there is no other option, and choosing the safety of yourself or other victims over the well-being of someone seeking to do you harm is a no-brainer. (Bogus and carl 78). Carrying guns is totally helpful in so many ways.
