Utopian authors focus more on triggering the mind of people by helping them to explore ideal worlds. On the contrary, dystopian writers are inclined towards showing the readers how a society can end up harming itself by embracing technology is the primary driver of development and civilization. As dystopian novels, “Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury and “Time Machine” by H. G. Wells, the idea of technology being the fuel of societal advancement is expansively captured. Thereby leaving them empty and thirsty for the good old ways where innovations developed slowly and were only used where necessary. In “the time machine” Wells boosts on how he has developed a new concept of time travel. He explains to an audience the possibility of taking a journey to another time and witness the event therein using his time machine.

His listeners view it as a major technological breakthrough that will change their lives for the better. The idea of innovation takes a central role in the advancement of Well’s agenda in the story (Wells 46). The developers of the floating track wanted people to travel comfortably and avoid coming into contact with the natural grass. Workers in the time safari are mandated with the responsibility of ensuring that no individual is disturbed or will be affected by happenings and items from their past. The walkway is designed in the manner that it does not allow humans to get in touch with anything. Scientific theories and principles used in the development of the future technologies are expansively explored by the two authors.

In “the time machine” Well’s uses the time traveler to describe to visitors the scientific approaches and doctrines that make the time machine operate the way it does. In “the time machine” Wells brings in another angle where technological progress will result in situations that are almost ideal thereby leading to the decline of human advancement and disappearance of intelligence (Wells 45). He predicts a future where innovations will become disastrous to the extent that individuals will start eating each other. Wells foreshadows a society that will experience booming technological progress but will reap negatively from such a situation. He believes intellectualism will no longer be fashionable because people would have resorted to violence. In “the time machine” Wells is extremely critical about how technology shapes the society.

Wells uses the example of the time traveller to show that technology can be harnessed in a better manner instead of utilizing it to punish others (Wells 31). He believes that innovations can be pursued to revamp humans with new ideas that can enhance societal progress. From to time to time, the time traveller comes up with a range of possibilities and adjusts them to fit his observations thereby creating new sets of knowledge, which is the primary technique used in scientific concepts. Contrary, to Wells who maintains a neutral ground on the role and consequences of technology, Bradbury takes a critical and confrontational view whereby he depicts innovations in a negative realm. Bradbury uses the idea of time travel to expound how technology can be disastrous to the human society.

Unfortunately, he stepped on a golden butterfly and killed it. His action resulted in insurmountable consequences (Bradbury 17). It is evident that the time machine had taken them to a place that they were unwanted. Eckels actions altered the existing system leading to the death of various organisms. Apart from the food chain that had been affected, the social structure was also destabilized. He holds that unless the technology is done with a high level of morality and ethical premises, then it has high chances of harming the society. However, Wells takes a neutral ground through his story. He believes that technology intends to make life better and the world manageable. Equally, he holds that technology can be disastrous if people decide to over depend on it.
