Name Instructor Subject Date Half of a Yellow Sun The novel Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was published in 2006. It seeks to narrate the story of the Biafran war or in other words the Nigerian Civil War. Its setting is on the period between the 1960s and it introduces the plot with how life was peaceful before the war proceeding to the outbreak and end of the war in 1970. The war was mainly ethnic based with the Northern Hausa and the South-eastern Igbo being the frontiers. While both the Northerners and the South-easterners believed they fought for what was right for their country the Northerners had strong British ties and influence in the government while the Southerners wanted to create the Republic of Biafra in the Southeast and have their own right to self government. One of the themes that clearly stand out the first place if there had been equality between the communities. In conclusion the author of the Half of a Yellow Sun novel did a good job in bringing into perspective the Biafran war and uncovering many aspects that could otherwise not have been understood by people outside of Nigeria. The themes that come up in the story are all related and the story is well narrated to bring out vivid imagery of the war and events that preceded it. The author was able to make the readers understand her point of view and she tried to bring out the truth without being biased or taking sides. Her neutrality makes it best to view the war from her point of view to best understand the underlying factors that led to the war. Works Cited Adichie Chimamanda Ngozi. Half Of A Yellow Sun. 1st ed. Hello so this essay should be about the book Half of a yellow sun. This essay needs to have structure and not be all over the place. This essay needs an introduction with a strong thesis and supporting body paragraphs and then a conclusion. For the thesis, I need something about how the author wish for the novel is to show the readers those outside of nigeria the impact that the nigerian-biafran war had on its people. The novel starts out as love story , then it quickly moves into how the ward pulled its people apart. For the body paragraphs I would talk about how the author uses 5 different themes. My only requirement is that you state clearly what you intend to look and and how that reflects or supports a certain theme or themes that the author seemed to be focusing on. You then need to use the evidence you choose from the book to defend your claim. helpful link for the themes http://www.litcharts.com/lit/half-of-a-yellow-sun/themes
