Analysis of Makah Hunting of Gray Whales

It is sometimes necessary to restore a community heritage to instill the feeling of belonging to the members of the community as this helps in enhancing the notion of social and cultural identity. However, in this circumstance, the priority should be given to safeguarding of the welfare of the gay whales rather than the re-establishing the Makah tribe tradition that entails hunting of these species. Makah tribe had kept this tradition for 2000 years until it stopped in the 1920s. From the deontological viewpoint, the opinions of the elders of Makah community of choosing the ban of whales hunting and the environmental community protecting the whales’ rights of existence are sensible and moral compared to young Makah leaders’ outlook of reviving the tradition.
