General adaptation syndrome Essay
Document Type:Essay
Subject Area:Psychology
In the alarm stage, the body identifies the stressor as a threat and gets prepared for fight or flight. In resistance stage, the body preparedness is reduced because most of the energy is directed towards restoration of the lost muscle strength while in the exhaustion stage the body has already gained enough ability to combat the stressor hence reduced harmful impact due to the drained adaptive energy. According to Selye’s, human body responds to stressors by portraying different facial and muscular expressions. I remember time back in my childhood when I almost got punished by my parent for not attending to household chores. At first I got scared with my entire body shivering. However, the General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS) model by Hans Selye portrays a clear biotic account of how the body reacts and adapts to stress.
