Clay Bennett Cartoon on Michael Brown Murder analysis
They are the leading victims of police brutality and extra judicial killings (Miller). This cartoon is addressing racism in law enforcement. In this cartoon Clay Bennett capture the three individuals, two are Caucasian and the other is black. A police car is just passing by and the black man has his arms up in the air symbolizing his surrender. It is ironic that even before the police are out of the car as indicted in the image, the black man has his hands up in the air. This cartoon might not be funny to many Americans especially in the wake of the deep knowledge, exposure and talk about racism and police brutality in today’s society. However, to white supremacists groups such as the KKK members, this drawing would be funny as it may be interpreted to show their supremacy (Mecklin).
