Vocational Rehabilitation Essay

The VR agencies were brought about as a result of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act. To ensure that all the operations carried out are effective, state agencies are mandated with the roles of managing and controlling what goes on in the agencies. The main goal of such organizations is mainly to ensure that all disabled individuals (qualified) gain fair chances of meeting their respective career goals. Such consideration is not limited as these services are made available for individuals born with disabilities, those who might have developed in his/ her, lifetime or merely gets injured in the line of work (Reynolds 51). To ensure that counselors can help individuals with disabilities to benefit from such programs, the counselor should be able to create an environment that is conducive to his actions.

A vocational rehabilitation counselor should always be in a position where he/she uses language that is respectful to all clients. For instance, some individuals may find the use of curse words to be a reasonable thing to them whereas others may view such behavior to be offensive to a point where they are likely to withdraw from counseling programs. It is, therefore, the role of the counselor always to ensure that he/she uses neutral language that is likely to enable the clients to feel more respected hence allowing them to explore more comfortable in the communication process (Reynolds 12). Chapter Seven Possible Reactions to Disability Grief In most cases, when parents give birth to children with disabilities, they often tend to lose hope in such situations.

This may be as a result of sorrow of the pain that their child may be undergoing more so if they might be experiencing some pain. This is the worst reaction likely to occur as it may push parents into deny their child an opportunity to interact with other children actively. This means that such children may be forced to live in hiding to avoid bringing about instances of humiliation to the family. This denies such children a chance to live a healthy and normal life (Reynolds 45). Most Difficult Reaction to People with Disability Negligence can be viewed as the most traumatizing reaction for any individual living with a disability. Parents living in denial are most likely to neglect their responsibilities of taking adequate care of their disabled children thereby making it very difficult for them to obtain relevant treatment.
