The misconstruals of feminist ethics as presented by alison jaggar
Document Type:Essay
Subject Area:Philosophy
Most people believe that feminists always put women’s issues first. However, this assumption cannot be used to describe feminist ethics because it raises various questions regarding the definition of women’s issues. Consequently, it becomes difficult to determine which of these ‘women’s issues’ should be given precedence over those of men and children and in what circumstances. Conflicts of interest also exist among women and this recommendation fails to solve them so as to identify issues that apply equally to all women. This therefore dissipates the idea of issues that are specific to women and which are the focus of feminist ethics. Feminist ethics have also been wrongly perceived as a means of substituting female or feminine values for male or masculine ones.
