What is the dilemma in this case? For whom is it a dilemma? The dilemma in the case study is how the admission to public schools of capricious quality should be appropriated within a school district. Consequently another dilemma is the description of a just school when some schools exhibit very dilapidated features as compared to other. This is a dilemma to Boston Public Schools (BPS). Boston Public Schools (BPS) faced this dilemma when they tried to reform its existing school assignment system in anticipation for the 2014-2015 academic years (Levinson& Fay 2016). Why is this dilemma? The principle at stake is that children should have an equal opportunity to access quality education. However this principle does not rhyme with the recommendation that the elementary schools access should be correlated with the neighborhood residences. The Boston Public Schools ‘Home based plan” attempts to solve the disharmony between the correlation C) Through the case study I have learnt that equality and proper distribution of resources is key to growth. The conversion of High poverty schools to High quality schools in the case study cements the notion that opportunity exists in all social environments. Therefore through equal distribution of resources more opportunities will be also in the society. The application of equal distribution in the government can ensure that all regions get sufficient resources which in the long run lead to improved economic growth. The policy of dividing schools in tiers could be used in different ways especially to ensure that equity is achieved. Through formation of variables that are not determined by outside external forces equality is achieved and this helps in ensuring that people in low income levels are also catered for.
