The three were buddies and knew each other for years, one day they planned for a party expedition to find out of the society that is inhibited by women only as Van has always narrated. The three young men are in disbelieve that their existed such society as women can never live alone without men as they need protection and they are venerable. Gilman was known as an advocator of gender equality in America through narrations. More specifically, this research paper will provide in-depth information about how Gilman see as a lot of women in her society, the comparison of these women with women in Herland and lastly, it will provide how Gilman challenge wide-held nature of women in her society.

Gilman sees a lot of women in her society through a conversation of the three young men in their way in discovering the weird land inhibited by women only. "They would fight among themselves," Terry insisted. "Women always do. We mustn't look to find any sort of order and organization. " (p. 9) Notably, this is emphasized by a mockery sound of the narrator when Jeff explained the Herland would be peaceful and all women will be living in harmony (Gilman, 1997). In contrary, Herland the land was civilized and lively. The town was much orderly than they expected; consequently, they concluded that women could not maintain or build such beautify and attractive architecture so there must be men. "But they look--why, this is a CIVILIZED country!" I protested.
