A raisin in the sun theme

Beneatha dreams of becoming a doctor while Walter dreams of quitting his job as a chauffeur and opening up a liquor store. Achieving dignity in this way makes brother and sister to be torn from their family identity through which they are later on united with the whole family when they decide to move into the new house. The characters, however, approach the topic of culture differently. Walter joins with friends to put up yet another liquor store in the neighborhood while striving to succeed within his cultural paradigm. Beneatha on the other hand, seeks a different direction that is completely out of the culture from which she was raised. For instance Beneatha is a principled and educated woman who needs to motivate Walter the ignorant and ever bitter man.
