The Social Commentary and the Stereotypical tragic ending
Therefore, this paper seeks to establish the social commentary in the Picnic play by Inge and show the stereotypical ‘tragic ending' in miller calls tragic within common characters in the play. The whole play is made up of the social aspect and people's view of the social lives including marriage (Inge 73). Marriage in the 20th century was influenced by the parents who would even determine the men who would marry their daughters. Also, the physical appearance of the girl mattered a lot when it came to the selection of who to marry. The beauty in the face of the girl would determine how many men would love her. However, because of the desire for money, Madge got into another relationship with Hal and broke away from Alan (Inge 147).
