This paper will seek to highlight Ngugi’s call to action of his fellow Africans and their leadership to denounce the neocolonialism through a foreign language. In this book, Ngugi argues that Africa will be able to break free from the chains of dominion from the western world by rejecting and replacing the European languages imposed on them and reverting to their native languages. He argues that it is only through this way that Africans could get back their resources and safeguard their heritage from their former masters. Decolonising the Mind is divided into four essays namely; The Language of The African Literature, The Language of the African Theatre, The Language of African Fiction and finally The Quest for Relevance. Some contents of the chapters originated from his previous lecture materials which gave him enough ground to write well connected and coherent concepts on matters of African literature.

The writer is trying to communicate with his fellow citizenry and their leadership that they need to take actions as fast as possible if these impoverished regions have to turn around their fortunes. He successfully shows how the influx of foreign languages negatively impacts the political landscapes of such nations. This crop of politicians allegedly excludes the broader working class who make the highest percent of the population from participating in the political spheres which shape such developing economies.
