Waste waters produced by municipals and industries are important sources of potential pollutants. They are viewed as being responsible for all the water pollution problems in the country. They contribute huge quantities of oxygen demanding materials, bacteria, metals and suspended matter with many chemicals that are capable of causing a variety of problems (Lee, 130). The byproducts originating from the treatment of water in industries and municipals, have been widely ignored although they are a major source of pollution. The byproducts include sludge accumulation which settle which settles on the base causing the wastewater to backflow. In Canada, industries are also the leading air pollutants. This is because industries emit fossil fuels which pollute the environment.
