According to the writer, the Americans are content when the African Americans recognize their dignity and appreciate it. We see when Berry accepted that she is an African, the American media went ahead and recognized her as a multiracial American. The main idea according to the article is about appreciating oneself and identifying with the race of your father then you will find favor of being recognized as a black American. Once one feels they are not proud of whom they are, they are demoralized by the reactions of Americans who will never allow you to stay the way you think you are.
