The marketing function would have nothing to do if the OM function had no goods or services to offer. Similarly, the Human Resource function would have nothing to do, if there were no OM function requiring human resources. The same applies to the Finance and Accounting, Information Systems and Engineering functions, all of which service the OM function. The OM function must continually seek ways of improving the delivery of its transformation role in the form of value addition and efficiency and this is why the OM environment is dynamic. The links provided on slides 11 and 12 on improving products and services provide relevant examples of the demands on firms to meet customers’ requirements for better quality, greater speeds, and lower costs.
