Document 1

A therapeutic relationship is that which allows the nurse to practice nursing towards meeting the patient’s needs. These include the use of skills, experiences and professional knowledge. On the other hand, professional boundaries refer to the space between the patient’s vulnerability and the nurse’s power. The continuum of professional nursing behavior does not allow the nurse to discuss personal issues with the patient. A nurse should practice their responsibility in a manner that is consistent with professional standards. The best solutions for this case study include clarifying the risk involved when a personal relationship is shared between a nurse and her patient. Since the line has not been crossed or professionalism violated, re-establish the boundaries. The nurse should also use a client-centered approach in delivering treatment while adhering to privacy regulations.
