Preface to Literary Anthology

It embraces philosophical discussions in the analysis of the literature with the evaluation of certain goals and methods. An important aspect that one ought to understand about literary studies is that they entail the study of a variety of genres such as poems, fiction, and drama among others. They have been explained by a number of scholars including the distinction between the literary theory and literary criticism even though they are both incorporated within literary studies. In addition, there are terminologies that are aligned with the literary studies that may help to understand the concept and the field of literature. The main aspect that entails or explains the field of literary studies is the term literature. In this case, the paper will look at two genres that are poetry and fiction.

Poetry Over the course of the syllabus, we have looked at a number of poems such as Williams This is Just to Say, Dickinson’s After great pain, a formal feeling comes, and also Cofer’s Volar among others. In this case, it is important to understand what makes poetry. A poem is a form of literature that utilizes rhythmic language and aesthetic to bring about meaning towards a certain subject. It is a genre of literature that entails its own conventions and as it has been seen within the Seagull Books, more so the one on Poems by Joseph Kelly, identifying the conventions within the poems is an important factor. S Eliot The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, the author presents a number of features that are essential within literary studies (Kelly).

The important aspect to note here is that poetry embraces diversity and that is the what makes the genre important within literary studies. Fiction The other genre that will be the focus of this paper is fiction. In this case, the sub-genre that will be looked at is the novel as it entails a broad aspect as well. It is a poem that is comprised of three stanzas with four short lines each. In some line, the poem also has two words which presents one of the varieties of poems that exist within the field. The other example is by Dickinson’s After great pain, a formal feeling comes. The poem looks at the great pain that the speaker in the poem goes through and later one, experiences a good life.
