The Mexican forces took up defenses positions on both sides of the Matamoros and hid in the thick chaparral north of the channel. In 1846 May, Taylor, the general of the U. S army ordered his troops to strike the Mexican land. The artillery, infantry, and the cavalry stroke the Mexican center. As the battle progressed, the U. • Families were formed from the relationships developed during the battle. • Women who worked at camp befriended the American army as wives, mistresses and executed domestic roles such as collecting food, cleaning uniforms and preparing meals. Resistance • Mexico resisted the move by Taylor to occupy the banks of Rio Grande. • They rejected the U. S. • Mexican territories occupied by the Whites were protected under United States laws and the treaty of Guadalupe.
