The basis for her argument is that most people’s understanding of the disabled comes from the medical perspective which defines disability as either physical or psychological. As such, the lack of more in depth context of this brings out struggles in these people’s search for an understanding of disability since medicine stands as the root source of information to psychology, psychiatry as well as education. Ware states that the disabled individual’s personal perspective concerning their infirmity works to either improve or stagnate their treatment in regards to integrated medicine. She notes that there are improvements on the field of disability studies in that it can now be studied through a cultural lens owing to new vocabulary, and research findings.
