Primarily, IPsec described two methods for enforcing security on Internet Protocol packets which are: • Encapsulating security payload (ESP) PROTOCAL This protocol described a mechanism for data encryption in IP packets. IPsec uses encryption which offers the Encapsulating Security Payload (ESP). The use of the Encapsulating Security Payload is to encrypt the all-inclusive payload of an Internet Protocol Security packet. Encapsulating Security Payload is a bit more complex than the Authentication header since it can offer replay-proofing authentication, as well as integrity checking alone. It achieves this by adding three different constituents: • ESP header • ESP authentication block • ESP trailer and All of the above elements entail some of the data required to offer the essential integrity checking and authentication. By including the signature of the sender on all packets, IPsec will avert this from happening.

• Security against tempering. IPsec adds signatures to each packet meaning that you can’t change any section of the packet unnoticed. • Security against hoaxing. Each termination of a link confirms the other’s uniqueness with the authentication headers that are used by the IPsec. How Internet Protocol security can be used to protect the internet data There are many ways in which the IPsec can be used to secure the internet data for example, • Using the IPsec tunneling, circuits can be set up in which all the data that has been sent between two points is encrypted. • Internet Protocol security can also be used to give security for routers directing the routing data across the public internet. The benefits of Internet Protocol security (IPsec) When the IPsec is used in a router or a firewall and it ensures a firm security which is applied to all traffic crossing this border.
