Background Cisco (2014), documents that the technology behind the usage of internet protocols was initiated in the early 1970s when the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) undertook to develop a networking model to interconnect different computers on diverse computer systems to facilitate communication within a research institution. During the research that followed the hypothesis, internet protocol was born. Modifications of the initial set up came up later on in the development phase of the system. One of these modifications involved the categorization of this networking model into transmission control protocol and the internet protocol.
